With the temperatures in the United States constantly falling, I am sure a lot of you are looking to escape to islands with balmy temperatures for the holidays. So let me introduce you to Maldives – a beautiful island located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India and Sri Lanka. I visited Maldives a couple of years back for my honeymoon. It definitely takes luxury to new heights. If you want to bask in the sun while relaxing on of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the world Maldives is the place for you. An archipelago of 1192 coral islands, each occupied with its own resort. The perfect dream destination for honeymooners, couples and families. While it’s beautiful to the eye, Maldives is very expensive to the wallet. Especially, since its primarily occupied by resorts and most of the activities are within the resort itself this dream vacation comes at a very steep price.
The water bungalows at the resort
We stayed here for a week and split our time between the Anantara Veli and Anantara Dhigu resorts which are right across from each other. The resort arranged for our pickup from the airport. We were able to fit in all our luggage into a boat which took about 40 minutes to reach the resort. Upon arrival we were greeted by drum-rolls and flowers and all our luggage was conveniently brought to us in our bungalow. We first arrived at Anantara Veli (which is an adults only resort) and is perfect for honeymooners. We stayed in one of their water bungalows with gorgeous views of the ocean from every part of the bungalow.

The beautiful breakfast room overlooking the ocean in Anantara Veli
The super yummy and grand breakfast buffet served everyday was to die for.
You can take a dip in the water right from your room. How cool is that 😀
Cleaning the sand off my feet outside our bungalow.
Our room had a bedroom, kitchen and living room, our own pool overlooking the ocean, a beautiful outdoor spa shower and a fabulous bath. I am sure the bungalow was as big as the apartment we live in San Francisco right now ;). The resort even provided us with complimentary champagne in our room. Talk about being pampered 🙂
Our bedroom at the Anatara Veli Resort. Open the curtains and voila, there’s the ocean.
Outdoor rain shower in our bungalow
Champagne provided by the resort upon arrival and we had to enjoy this in our private pool 🙂
There is a lot to do in the resort in terms of activities. They provide you with a huge selection of food during their complimentary breakfast hours. After that you can go diving, surfing, snorkeling, swimming and so much more. They even have a badminton court and table tennis on the resort. We spent our mornings doing few of these activities each day and relaxing in our room in the afternoon when it was too hot to go outside. The evenings were perfect for a stroll on the beach. Every night they had a special going on. They even had an International cooking class one of the nights where we could go cook with the chefs.
One of the nights while we were relaxing with some hookah and cocktails.
So much fun learning how to cook with the Chef’s during the international food night 🙂
and learning how to make some fancy desserts. yummm 😀
The resort even arranged for a special night for couples to mingle, play some games and have champagne and cupcakes.
Ofcourse, putting a fresh flower in my hair everyday was mandatory during our stay there 🙂
It was an easy transfer between the 2 resorts. Anantara Dhigu is a more lively resort with kids and more activities. Again we had our own dip pool in our room. We had a bast here chilling by their pool, getting some hookah and drinks and snorkeling.
Our bungalow at Anantara Dhigu overlooking the ocean and with a direct access to the beach.
You can even do some kayaking or snorkeling to reach this fancy swing in the middle of the ocean.
We spent a lot of time relaxing on these beach chairs and swings, sunbathing or just catching up on a book.
This was the best part of my stay. Enroute to the Spa for getting a massage. Doing my happy dance on the way 😉
This was our last night in the resort and apparently it was also Mojito night. We enjoyed gazing at the stars with some nice live music.
Overall it was a beautiful trip which was perfect for relaxation. I would definitely recommend you visit Maldives if this is the kind of vacation you are looking for. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments section. Happy to answer them.
